Happy spring!

Well, I didn't quite meet my goal of blogging the *entire* 2008 CSA farm season, but I came close. Things petered out pretty quickly. We did eventually see carrots, squash, pumpkin, and cauliflower, ableit in small amounts. And then it was November, and time to call it a year.

In November and December, my thoughts turned to stocking our basement freezer in anticipation of our new baby, due in February. I made many, many double batches of soup, chili, casseroles and sauces- one batch for dinner on the night I made it, and the second batch packaged and labeled for easy eating on some future night when we'd be too busy juggling the baby and Ryan to cook.

The last two months of my pregnancy were very rough, marked by nightly insomnia. I got about 3-4 hours of sleep most nights and felt like I was living underwater. When Aiden Thomas finally arrived, taking care of a newborn felt like a cakewalk. When do you ever hear of a new mom who gets MORE sleep after the baby is born than she did before? And all those meals I'd carefully tucked away in the freezer- and inventoried in an Excel spreadsheet (because I am a geek at heart)- have made life that much easier.

So- we've been eating well. The freezer has gradually emptied out. We're currently enjoying the last jar of the homemade strawberry jam, and we're down to the last cup of pesto, last few bags of homemade tomato sauce, last bag of blanched and chopped chard. Time to start anew.

I'm going to attempt to blog the growing season again this year, with hopes of being more consistent and becoming a better food photographer, among other things. And I also have hopes of attracting a few more readers, or at least luring back those who were with me last summer!
