Irises in bloom

Our irises are blooming. I love the blue/purple ones, and I like how they look against our weathered fence in this picture. This is actually the first year the irises in this part of the yard have bloomed- for the past several years the foliage has come up, but no flowers. I've just been too lazy to dig them up and remove them. This year, surprise! Lots of blooms. Sometimes being lazy pays off, I guess.

There are irises in several places in our yard. The ones in the front border definitely need to be dug up and divided this year, as they are invading the lawn and aren't blooming as profusely as they once did. I may move the blue ones in the back yard too, as I'd like to put a new bed in along the fence. And there are some growing along the opposite fence in a variety of colors- red, yellow, a deep purple that looks almost black. They aren't to my taste and I will probably dig them up and give them away if I can find someone who wants them.
